My screen is not coming on when I boot up.

I was having problems getting my Inspiron 8600 to boot up so I wiped my hard drive and reloaded Windows XP Home, drivers and my other programs.  Everything worked great for quite a while then the old problem returned.  I wiped the hard drive again however after reloading Windows XP Home I can't get the computer to reboot all the way up from the hard drive.  It starts out fine in that I get the Dell logo and then the Windows logo but after that it goes blank.  With the screen blank I hear the pop up sounds associated with screen messages but no screen.  Any suggestions?

Sounds like your backlight is dying. Is the display acceptable on an external monitor, while the internal panel is black?

UPDATE:  As I can't do anything without reloading windows each time, I did it again.  During this process everything works just fine.  I started reloading my drivers and rebooting each time.  All went great until I reloaded my video card driver.  When rebooting after that, the old problem came back.  I'm running the Mobility Radeon 9000 video card and loading the M9XPA04L driver.  Is my video card possibly the problem?  If so, can I reload windows again only skip the video driver and still be able to use my computer for a while?  Thanks for your help.
