Performance Issues Inspiron 17R SE 7720
Having now used this laptop every day for three months, I'm sorry to report that I'm very disappointed with it.
It has a series of minor but irritating faults that NO amount of tweaking or driver updates will correct.
- Intermittent intense white flashes from backlighting.
- Intermittent low-level flickering whilst battery-powered
- Numeric keypad turns off sometimes when rebooting
- Unable to turn touch-pad off using control panel
- Cursor occasionally jumps about screen whilst typing
For a $1000+ laptop this is simply unacceptable. I'm also using an old Toshiba laptop that's never shown any of these faults after 4 years service. In hindsight I regret purchasing this DELL and will be replacing it with another brand after its (useless?) warranty expires.

I haven't had most of the issues above, but I would like to be able to turn the touch-pad off.
How is that supposed to be done?

Go into Control Panel and locate this touchpad dialogue box (it may also be a shortcut on your desktop depending on your installation).
You can then turn the touchpad on or off, plus adjust a few other settings.
(Unfortunately for me, this control panel doesn't work LOL.)
