Port Replicator Pre-purchase Question

Yes. And if  your Dell supports it, you can also use a second monitor.

i was looking at the picture of the port replicator. it does not look like that it will allow me to open the laptop screen since there is small thing that comes over.

Which DELL and thus which replicator were you thinking of getting? The 7500, 8000, 8100 and 8500 models that I've had allowed the use of the laptop screen. You would not use the monitor stand (which is now an option) in that case. The monitor stand is what goes over top of the laptop. It's a separate piece and can be ignored.
