Re: Power Adapter Error message & Battery Not charging!

I have a new twist on this old problem, when plugged in my adapter to my XPS 17  the message will pop up, but the battery will still charge.  Unfortunately for me, while the battery works and the charger works the frame rate of the game I am playing at the time drops to a tenth of what it is when unplugged.  I have set the power plans on both settings to high performance and one would think that would equate to performance on the same level, but it doesn't.

Log into EBAY and buy yourself a new Power Supply or fix the broken wire in the connector that is plugged into the computer from the power supply

Same problem on a Dell XPS L412Z. Dell never ceases to annoy me. I have 35 employees and switched to HP over Dell six months ago or so. But the HPs have issues too. This laptop has been good for me...until now. Aargh.

RE: Power Adapter Error message & Battery Not charging!

While traveling on a Flight , I plugged my laptop in the socket next to my seat.  Since then my battery won't charge and I get an error message stating that I have another energy source.

RE: Power Adapter Error message & Battery Not charging!

Hi

if you have access to dell support do not attempt this, it might be harmful to your device, but if you don`t have access to dell support here is a way to fix this problem.

I had the same problem with my Inspiron n5110 for a month, and i noticed when i pull the charger wire down while inserting it, my laptop starts charging without any error.

guessed the socket  was loose so i applied a little bit of solder outside of the charger connector ( maybe about one millimeter ). when i connected the charger it was not as loose as before and now i don`t get any errors and its working fine.

be very cautious to not short circuit the charger.

again if you are not confident just call dell support or if you don`t have access to them show your laptop to an expert.

RE: Power Adapter Error message & Battery Not charging!

I am having Inspiron-5010 laptop. 4 years old. Suddenly I am getting the following message for the past two days:

"Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."

That error message comes when I plug in the AC adapter to go to AC from battery.

RE: Power Adapter Error message & Battery Not charging!

I am having Inspiron-6400 (XP SP3) laptop. 2 years old. Suddenly I am getting the following message for the past two days:

"Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher for best system operation."

That error message comes when I plug in the AC adapter to go to AC from battery.

It results in Battery not charging. That is a big problem. The tray-icon just shows 'On AC Power' and the 'Charging' indication does not appear any more.

A related message is also seen when I reboot the laptop, at the start itself. That message adds a suggestion by saying 'Try to reseat the power adapter'. Reseating it does not help. Though, a couple of times it helped. So I am not sure what this mechanical / reseating thing has to do with this error.

Overall, it is frustrating. It will be great if someone can help me with the exact solution for this, other than going to Dell requesting for paid-service support.

First thing to try is a new, OEM Dell AC adapter.  If that doesn't solve it, replace the mainboard.

Thank you kirkd .... I looked in the jack and the pin is intact (machine only 2 months old) so just blew in it and then it worked!!

I had the same problem.  When I plugged in my ac adaptor, it said "Plugged in, not charging".  I fixed it this way.  Press the bottom left of your page where there is the 4 boxes. When all items go up, press device manager..then press batteries.  2 adaptors will come up.  The second one is longer than the first. Press on second one and uninstall.  Then press recent changes and it will reappear.  Reboot and you're good to go.  Let me know.
