Power Button does not turn off my XPS 15 laptop.
My XPS 15 will not turn off! The Power Button setup is programmed to turn it off - but it does not. It loops right back on. When I hold the power button down, it turns off but when I turn it back on, I'm turn it did not shut down probably and do I want to enter into safe mode.
I've taken the battery out and held the button down for 15 - 20 seconds and the system only reboots back on. Very frustrating and battery draining to say the least. I have to take the battery out when I travel to ensure I'll have power when I arrive.
I have even reset the bios to default and still the system will not shut itself down.
Help!!!

Hi johnny.mccall,
Thank you for all the trouble shootig steps done.
To drain the residual charge, you need to press and hold the power button for 20 to 30 seconds with the Ac adapter disconnected and the battery removed. Next connect only the ac adapter and wait for 30 seconds and turn on the system and check if the system shuts down by pressing the power button.
In case it is not shutting down, flash BIOS to the latest version by clicking on the link below:
http://dell.to/PrrlGs
Select the model of the system, next the operating system from the drop down list. Click BIOS and download the latest version of BIOS. Please connect the Ac adapter and the battery with minimum 15% charge as the system needs uninterrupted power supply.
I would also like know if you are able to shut down the system from Windows that is by pressing Windows key on the keyboard and then clicking on ‘Shutdown’.
Please reply for further assistance along with the system model, if it is L521X or L501X.
