Power up issue - Dell Inspiron 1545
Hi
This is a late 2008 build Dell Inspiron 1545, sold retail in December 2010.
Pentium dual core T4500, 2.3 GHz
Has been in irregular use as a spare machine, mains adapter only, battery removed. My house was struck by lightning over a year ago and adapter damaged. Replaced adapter and no further issue until now.
Laptop would not power up, no light. Tested adapter and tried another 2 adapters - still no power up. Replaced original adapter and plugged in depleted battery - powered up but had to press F1. Powered up with no issue with good battery. Once powered up the laptop seems to be charging battery OK. Guessed this was a power board issue but no change when replacement fitted.
Can only think that the problem must be motherboard related - can anyone confirm please.

I have had no response to my posts about this problem. Perhaps this is an unusual issue - it would be typical if it was:-). Have more information now so please reply to my thread if you can advise.
Took laptop apart and had a good look at the motherboard. All the chips look perfect except a MAXIM 8731AE, TI022 +UTAT chip with 28 legs. There is a small burn mark and crater on the surface(top left corner). This would make some sense as appears to have a power IC function.
The motherboard is a 48.4A028.011, 0CJFHX. Does anyone know if it would be possible to replace this chip? I've done power jacks and larger stuff but this look very difficult as such fine detail. Does anyone happen to have a 0CJFHX motherboard from an Inspiron 1545 available.

You might be able to find one on parts-people.com, eBay, or Amazon. If you call Dell's parts department they may have one (refurbished) for sale.

Yep, agreed. Might as well save the money for a new laptop.

Thanks for the reply Balong48.
It seems to be a rare motherboard. Nothing through Dell or on Amazon.
Found a listing on ebay a few days ago and was going to go that route.
I thought the laptop was running slow with the current set up but run the onboard performance tests and all OK.
It seems these laptops sell cheaply nowadays - If the only inconvenience is pressing F1 with a dead battery, may well just put up with it.
