Problems powering up 8600 after being undocked
I have experienced a problem with the replicator on an inconsistant basis since I bought it early this year. The problem is related to when I dock the 8600 and power up the laptop using the replicator. My screen will initiate as normal with the Dell screen being seen. Then USUALLY, instead of seeing the Windows XP boot up screen, my screen just goes dark (not off, just blank). It requires me to turn off and re-initiate the start-up sequence multiple times (usually appox 5 times) before the system seems to get it together. At that time my screen will transition from the Dell to Windows screen just like it normally does unplugged, and after running through the initializing program, it will go to my log on screen and act normal from there on. I have a 14 inch monitor that is plugged in to the replicator and have wondered if it is struggling with a conversion from the screen format on the 8600 to the different sized screen. Its a pain to go through this everytime I redock the computer. Some assistance/suggestions on solving this issue would be appreciate!

I have almost the same issue. I have an Inspiron 8600 with the 15.4" screen. No external monitor attached to the port replicator. When I press the power button, the system will seem like it will start, but then just turn off after about 3 seconds. I don't get the Dell screen at this time. I will have to try it a few times before it continues with the full startup. For me, it doesn't matter if I'm docked or not. It seems to happen more when the unit is warm than it does when it's cold, and it doesn't happen all the time. I can be docked, undocked, or running on battery for this to happen. Any possibilities for a fix on this issue is appreciated.
Thanks,
