tailz,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

The computer is behaving exactly as it was designed.  When the system is plugged into AC power, it will run at full speed and full brightness on the LCD.  When it is on battery power, these two options are diminished to permit a longer life period on the battery.  If you wish to adjust the settings, go into the Power Management item in the Control Panel.

Yup, having it unplugged will dim the screen to save battery.  There are settings in the Omega drivers (not sure about the default Dell drivers, since I don't use them any more) to have the LCD stay at high power when the AC adapter is unplugged - go look around and see if you can find such a setting on your machine.

It seems logical that the wireless card throttles back when on battery, too, especially if you're kind of near the fringes of the access point signal.  If you know where the access point is, move the laptop closer to it to see if your speeds improve.  Here at the office, even on AC, I never get more than 1Mbps on wireless, simply because of the amount of steel between me and the access point.  If I carry the laptop around the corner, I get the full 11Mbps.

YMMV.  HTH.

The screen dimming during battery operation is set in the bios configuration.

Thanks for the reply , but I still don't get it , my wireless pci adapter is still excellent and my signal strength is also excellent when unplugged but it takes three to five minutes for a web page to come up as opposed to one to three seconds when plugged in, what on power adjustments would I change? Also I am still at 11.0 Mbps if I am on ac or dc .  THANK YOU

Try the portable/Laptop scheme. Power settings should not affect the pci adapter, but try this setting.

HI!

Thanks for the reply! I tried to save power scheme as portable laptop and came up unable to set up policy , indicates two revision levels are incompatible, whatever that may mean?  THANKS
