Slow Startup and IE "Timing-Out"

Hey and hope all is well today!

I've been having an issue with a slow start-up for a while... After resolving a previous online pop-up virus issue, I was given a couple sites to reference to see what I could eliminate from my start-up, but the items I was able remove didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Also, I'm not sure if is something we changed in the security features of IE,  but ever since we resolved the pop-up issue if IE remains idle for a while it will "time-out" or quit working and we have to restart. Is there something we can do to stop this from happening?

One last thing; is it necessary to run both Avast and Comodo?
