Studio 1558 not detecting DVD/CD and USB drives, problem in shutting down and start up

Hi,

Few days back my Studio 1558 laptop stopped detecting the DVDs and CDs. It doesn't show the disc in Explorer. It is not even ejecting out the disc now. First I thought that my DVD drive might have stopped working. But when I tried to use my USB jump drive it failed to read USB jump drive too.  

Then suddenly it started taking too long to start up and when i try to shut it down it stops on "windows is shutting down" screen. I have to switch it off using the power button. 

It has Windows 7 Home Basic operating system. I bought this Laptop last year and its warranty has expired last month.  I mostly used it for watching the movies. Even I never used internet on it.
