Hello Frank, I've noticed a similar dialog before, when booting my Windows 10 Latitude laptop.

No idea what it means, I've not noticed any problems (or changes).

Couldn't find anything special in startup, task scheduler etc.

That's all I know for now.

I too am having this issue. No matter what I try (uninstalling driver, reboot, wait; find new drivers; update bios; throw PC at a wall) nothing seems to work or help. I'm at the point where I believe there is an issue with the driver, but there is not a corrected version out there. This has been a common error but no resolution. Did you ever find something to solve this problem?

Thanks!

I'm getting this, too, with a Dell Precision 7510 laptop on Windows 10.

Because we use a CAD PDM system, it tries to log into the system to complete the deletion of files. So the login sits there waiting for input before startup can complete. Extremely annoying.

Does Dell ever monitor these forums?

Perhaps this is not the right place to report issues like this.

Hey Dell - if anyone monitors this, is there some other place I should be reporting this to get some support help?

I am having the same issue as well on my 7510 along with SolidWorks and EPDM.  It would be nice if dell were to monitor these forums, as this is getting pretty annoying...

SOLVED!!! Delete the Dell Touchpad folder in the following directory, no more window at startup! (Just go to your user account appdata folder and delete it from the start menu programs directory)

C:\Users\[USER ACCOUNT NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

Hi tzalusky,

Thanks for the response. But, for me, it looks like a solution only for the next restart. After that, it creates those folder and file shortcuts again and the problem comes back!

There must be a way to turn it off so the system doesn't create the folder and shortcut in there every time. Maybe a registry hack?

Great find, though. Obviously on the right track!

I have the same behavior on a Dell M6800. The files come back on next boot if I delete them.

I have same issue on a Dell M6800. Shows the dialog with the "Deleting 2 items from programs" on bootup.  "If I delete C:\Users\[USER ACCOUNT NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Dell\Touchpad Options(Touchpad)", they just get recreated on the next boot with the same message.

I had this issue yesterday also on a user's Dell Latitude laptop. Very frustrating. I provided a workaround and haven't seen the box pop back up after several shutdowns and boot ups.

I went into Services and stopped and then disabled the Alps HID Monitoring Service. This still enabled the Touchpad Options application to launch if needed to adjust touchpad settings. But the dialog box that would pop up right after login saying that it was deleting 2 files no longer was happening. This will work for now until Dell figures out what is wrong with their driver/application and issues an update.

Edit: I should also add that this may not work for everyone, especially if you have a different brand of Touchpad installed in your machine. This particular machine has an Alps touchpad with an HID monitoring service accompanying it, and it seems that disabling that service provided an acceptable workaround for us. There may be a similar service for your brand of touchpad, so just keep that in mind.

Uninstall the 2017 Dell Touchpad driver and install an older driver, released in 2016 or earlier. I only had this problem after updating Windows. On my much older Dell E6430, this problem did not occur. I checked the Dell touchpad drivers and found them untouched, 2015 drivers.

This could be due to a conflict with another program. Recently I installed Google Drive Filestream. The touchpad dialog box "Deleting 2 items from programs" appears everytime after the laptop is started up from a cold boot (but not when the laptop is restarted), and before Google Drive Filestream is launched. This means these two programs were in conflict. I uninstalled Google Drive Filestream and the problem disappeared.
