USB Root Hub showing yellow color ! mark

Question

Hi,

I have Dell Inspiron 510m laptop with Windows XP professional OS. The in-built USB controller is not detecting any device.

I found that the device manager shows 4 usb controllers and 4 root hubs.

Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM - 24cd - Enhanced Host Controller

Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM - 24c2 Universal Host Controller

Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM - 24c4 Universal Host Controller

Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM - 24c7 Universal Host Controller

USB Root Hub

All the 4 Root Hubs are showing yellow colour exclamation mark. Looks like these devices are not working or drivers are not loaded. But the USB controllers didn't show any errors.

Can any one help me, how to solve this issue ?.

Did you install Service Pack 2, and then the chipset drivers, and then have Windows redetect the USB hardware?

Do I need to install SP2 and install the chipset drivers ?.   How can I get the chipset drivers ?.   - Franklin

The OS I had in the laptop is default one, but I made few windows updates from microsoft website. I am not sure whether I updated SP2. I can verify that.   But I tried with removing all the controllers. Windows detected and installed the drivers. Still, it shows yellow colour mark on the Root Hubs.   - Franklin

You should install SP2 (and all the post-SP2 critical updates -- there are a lot of them, and a lot of them fix major security holes that have been eploited by common worms already). The chipset drivers are on your diagnostics and utilities CD or can be downloaded from support.dell.com.
