Hi Prashant Deokar,

Yes you can install Windows 7 as well as Windows 8 on GPT partition. You just need to format the hard drive completely. You can create or delete partitions press "shift+F10" this will open a command prompt and you can use diskpart to convert to GPT. You may refer to the Microsoft link: http://bit.ly/QJ0FEh.

* Note: This step leads to complete data loss including pictures, music files, videos, documents and applications. Please disconnect any external peripherals as well.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further questions.

Thank Amogh for your reply.

My disk is already having style of GPT and while installing window 7 or 8. its give me error that This disk is GPT style partition. You can not install window on it.

Do i need to change the setup of Win 7 or 8 to compatible for GPT partition?  OR

Do I need to convert current GPT partition to MBR and install win 7 or 8 on it?

Thanks

Hi Prashant Deokar,

I would suggest you to change the boot mode to UEFI in BIOS and then try to install operating system on GPT format. You may follow the steps below:

  • Tap 3-4 times at Dell logo.
  • Go to ‘Boot’
  • Go to ‘Boot List Options’
  • Change it to ‘UEFI’
  • Enable ‘Secure Boot’
  • Press to ‘Save Changes and Exit’

Now try to install Windows in GPT partition.

Keep me posted with the findings. I will be glad to assist further.

Thank you Amogh for your help. It worked. After I have boot from UEFI mode for my USB drive. Previously i was trying for normal boot which is might be MBR boot mode. Now I have successfuly installed the win 8 on GPT disk without any GPT -> MBR conversion.  Last option was that only. :)

Thank you once again for your help.

Thanks

The Precision 7510 is a Skylake system. The UEFI BIOS settings and installation media must be updated accordingly.

In the UEFI Setup: UEFI should be enabled. Legacy ROMs should be enabled. Also SecureBoot should be disabled. The SATA operation should be set to AHCI. For more details see:

http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/uefi/

Installation media needs updated to incorporate USB 3.1, NVMe support and SATA preinstallation drivers. For best results use the Dell Windows 7 Professional Reinstallation Skylake .iso. More details here:
