Upgrad Inspiron E1705
I'm new to this forum. I acquired a used Inspiron E1705. I upgraded the RAM to 2 GB (1GB stick x 2) using 2 x Kingston 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) System Specific Memory Model KTD-INSP6000B/1G Newegg Item #: N82E16820134873, a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD5000LPVT 500GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive Newegg Item#: N82E16822236240, and a Laptop/Notebook Battery Replacement for Dell Inspiron 6000 E1505n XPS M170 9200 E1705 XPS M1710 9300 XPS Gen 9400 M6300 2 Precision M90 Battery fits 310-6321, 310-6322, U4873 Newegg Item# 9SIA1KT0ED4314. After installing all these parts and allowing the battery to charge for approximately 8 hours the computer will not come on, just a black screen. Any suggestions?

You upgraded 3 items at the same time, replace each with your old items to see what one is causing the issue.
My guess would be defective memory, reseat your old modules and try again. If it boots you can narrow it down to a memory problem.
With regards to black screen. I just want to verify that you don't even get the Dell BIOS screen when you power on the system.
If you do get this screen and then a black screen then its probably because no OS is installed but in that case it should be a black screen saying no boot sector.

I did not give a complete description due to interruption from grandkids (go figure!!). Here' exactly what happens. I press the power button and on the device status lights the ON indicator lights and stays on but the hard drive activity light stays on for only about 3 seconds. When the hard drive indicator light goes off immediately the number lock indicator comes on steady and the caps lock indicator and the scroll lock indicator start flashing. The ON light and the keyboard indicators stay on for about 50 seconds total then they all go off. During this entire process the screen is totally blank; no DELL logo, nothing just black.
I will follow your suggestions. I don't believe the battery is involved because the battery indicator shows it to be charged no so I will concentrate on the memory and the hard drive. I'll let you know what happens and thanks. Any more suggestions are welcome.

I reseated the memory modlules and I am now loading XP on the hard drive. Thanks again.
