Upgrade Inspiron 1520 WLAN minicard to support 802.11n

I have an Inspiron 1520 dual booting to either XP SP3 or Ubuntu. It has a 1395 WLAN minicard which supports 802.11 a/b/g.

We're getting an upgrade to our ISP (from 5mbps DSL to 100mbps cable...yay!) and wireless router (which is a Netgear 600...dual band 802.11 a/b/g/n).

I would like all our home machines to run 802.11n. The other machines are one Dell tower and 2 Dell laptops, all running Windows 7 will 802.11n capable network adaptors.

Is it possible to  upgrade the 1395 minicard in the 1520 to one that supports 802.11g/n and if so, what is it? (I supect the 1505 minicard is the answer). Where do I get the XP/Ubuntu drivers for it? Are there any gotchyas involved?

Thanks.

 Hi MDH1949,

The system has an option to upgrade to a wireless card 1505 a/b/g/n. The driver for ‘Windows XP’ is available on the support website.

Below is the link to download the driver:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product/inspiron-1520

Kindly click on the above link and from the list of drivers click on ‘Network (6)’. Click on ‘Get driver’ and follow the on screen instruction to download the driver for 1505 mini card.

With regards to driver for Ubuntu, please check on ‘Ubuntu’ website for the same.

Thanks and Regards,
