Upgrade from vista to Windows 7 on a studio 1555 laptop. Advice please

Hello, I have a studio 1555. A few years old but works okay for me. I think it might be time to upgrade the OS though. When I bought it there was a special offer to upgrade to 7 but I never took dell up on this. I am assuming because of its age 7 is likely to run better than 10 if it would work at all 10, that is). Does anyone have experience of this upgrade? Do I go for 32 or 64 bit? Where do I get the OS from? Does it have to be a dell version with drivers etc? I'm assuming dell will not help me any more because the laptop is obsolete. Thank you for any advice.

First ensure your Legacy BIOS is up to date at A13:

If you ordered the free Windows 7 Upgrade license you may directly clean Windows 10 using this key. This system will have a Legacy BIOS so make the Bootable USB using the MBR partition scheme for Legacy BIOS:

If you only have a Windows Vista OEM license and didn't take the 6 months offer to get Windows 7 for free use the unofficial 10130 upgrade path:

Drivers wise Windows 10 TH2 should have almost all of them inbuilt or obtain them automatically from Windows Update. You may wish to install the Windows 7 version of Dell Quickset and the Ricoh Card Reader however:

Touchpad wise force install the latest Synaptics Driver using the Device Manager. See here:

Hello, Thank you for the info. I will read everything and take the plunge. I assume my old Studio 1555 might not be powerful enough to run Windows 10 though?

I've upgraded lesser hardware... This system will be fine. For optimal results however a SSD is recommended. Run the Crucial system scanner for details:
