Upgrades for the Inspiron N5010?
I'm trying to avoid having to get rid of my laptop but I'm also wanting to get more performance out of it.
I upgraded the RAM from 4GB to 8GB a little over a year ago and that's all i've really done. I was wanting to know if it would be possible to upgrade the cpu?
I currently have:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M380 @ 2.53GHz 2.53GHz
8GB RAM
500gb HDD
and im running windows 7 64
I was wanting to maybe upgrade to the i7 cpu. Is this possible? If so, what is best cpu to buy? Would upgrading to windows 8 help any?

Hi s2k1099,
Inspiron N5010 supports only i3 and i5 processors. I have provided the list of the processors supported below:
Windows 8 is not officially tested on Inspiron N5010 and we cannot address the lack of Windows 8 drivers for unsupported systems.
Please let me know if you need further information.

Hi,
Concerning i5 what about the third and fourth generation are they supported ,i have an i5 480m?
My n5010 suffer from overheating ,caused i suppose by the gpu (an ati 5650hd). By changing the cpu i'd like to be able to use the intel hd 3000 or 4000 to solve the problem.
Knowing that the Ati is always activated for me, (the integrated is not active for my i5 480m). do you think it is a solution to avoid overheating?

No, you cannot use the Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge CPUs - you can only use the first-generation Core CPUs. If you haven't cleaned the heatsink-fan assembly, that will likely solve the overheating problem. You might also replace the thermal pads that sit between the CPU and GPU cores and the heatsink as well - they do dry out with time.

DELL-Rajath N does the N5010 also support the i5-480M?
I'm thinking of upgrading to it but I don't see it in the list above.

Is it just a matter of swapping my old i3 celeron processor for a faster one, or do I have to change anything else on my Inspiron D5010 laptop?
