Upgrading to Windows 10 on a Dell XPS M1530

Hello,

I'm trying to upgrade my M1530 from Windows 7 to Windows 10, but the Update app tell me my CPU is not supports ( its a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHZ).

If I try upgrading using the Windows Media Creator, I get told the same thing ( but I get a bit more info, that my processor doesn't support NX).

When I go into the BIOS settings, the EXECUTE-DISABLE Bit Capability is ENABLED ( if I set it to OFF, Windows 7 Boot loops with a BSOD, which flashes up to fast for me to read).

Has anyone else managed to update there XPS M1530 to windows 10? ?

Can someone explain what I need to do to get the update to work?

I read that the original update app was distributed with a bug that gave a false negative on CPU compatibility, and that KB2952664 patches this error, up I cannot see it to download, Its not in my updated list, and I'm unsure if this it the correct procedure.

If any one could help, that would be great.

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately Dell doesn’t recommend updating an XPS M1530 to Windows 10.

This article designates the Dell laptops and desktops that have been tested for upgrade to Windows 10. If your device is not listed in the tables below, Dell is not testing the device, drivers have not been updated for that model, and Dell does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10. If you wish to proceed with an upgrade to Windows 10 on an untested system, Microsoft provides information and support for upgrade through their upgrade website.

XPS 13 9333 *

XPS 13 9343

XPS 14 (L421x)

XPS 15 (L521x)

It would be interesting for others that may have updated their XPS M 1530 to Windows 10 and what was required in the process to post here.

the T5550 DOES SUPPORT the NX bit disable function, and should upgrade. I upgraded my M 1530 with the 7200 core duo processor. The only possible issue is the video driver. NVidia does have a Win 8 driver for the 8xxx GPUs that works very good with Win10. I received the Will Not Upgrade message about an incompatible video. The Microsoft Media Creation Tool worked good.

The Execute-Disable bit capability is enabled in my laptops BIOS. On the rear of the device, it says is model no PP28L.

The Update App AND the Media creation tool both Cite the CPU not supporting NX.

Does NX=Execute Disable bit ?

If I set it to OFF, Windows Boot loops.

is anyone able to share how they have there CPU set up in BIOS to they DONT get the un-support CPU error ?

thanks

I never really checked the BIOS setting. I'll do it later tonight.

Sorry, but I was away and forgot to check this. The XD function (earlier version of NX) is (and always was) enabled on my M1530. I did some more digging and found that, although most Core2 Duo processors support Intel VT-x virtualization, necessary for Win 10,  the guyT5550 DOES NOT. This is probably your problem. You should be able to replace it with a 7200 or some others (wee the specs for originally available CPUs. Amazon has the 7200 for $20.
