Very annoying jumpy cursor for Inspiron N5110

Thank you for posting on Dell Community Forum, regarding cursor jumping on Inspiron N5110

It is a known issue on some of the laptops. It is usually caused by touchpad sensitivity.
Look for the touchpad icon on the taskbar. When you rest the cursor over it, it should read "Dell Touchpad".
Double-click it.  Click "Device Select" and check "Disable Touchpad / Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present and see if it helps.

Then you can click on Touchpad settings and adjust touchpad speed and sensitivity, play around with the settings and see if you can increase control on the cursor.

If there are no Touchpad icon on the taskbar click on start, control panel and then mouse.  Click on Touchpad and you should be able to bring up the same menu.

If there are no Dell Touchpad options under Mouse in Control panel, I suggest downloading and installing the touchpad drivers from the following link.

Interestingly, I am having the exact same problem with the exact same computer (Dell Inspiron N5110 running Windows 7) on the exact same day.

My cursor jumps all over the place. I typically type about 10 characters before it moves itself to a different line or a different place on the line. I have tried adjusting the touchpad sensitivity to "heavy touch" but  this doesn't make any difference.

The above link (http://www.support.dell.com/.../download.aspxld a) does not work.

I would appreciate any guidance. I am happy to try reinstalling drivers if I had a link.

Three people today...I'm thinking it has something to do with an update. Eagerly awaiting a response...I'm a writer on a deadline!

Okay, I tried a variation of one of the above suggestions and was successful in solving the problem. Hopefully it will help you guys too. I was hesitant to try it since I don't have an external mouse on hand, but for some reason this seems to have tricked the system into working properly.

Well I got the link for the new driver for the touch pad, and deleted the old one. reinstalled.... and now it is working just fine. .............grrrrr... the link above does not work so try  this one...   good luck to all  www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Dalidali!  Thanks for the link - it worked for me.  Looks like the touchpad driver was not installed initially nor after it was sent into the DELL shop for repair.  Shame on the Dell rep that didn't respond to the other's noting that the linke that they supplied didn't work.

This is my last Dell - it's been too difficult to get support and the support I get is only at half-power.
