Vostro 1000 Screen Gone Black
Hi,
I have a Vostro 1000 and over the last few days the screen has been taking longer to become bright after closing the lid and reopening and also on boot up or just waking it up after it had darkened the screen when it wasnt being used. It developed a slightly red tinge which cleared slowly until the screen was fine. Instead of becoming bright after a second or so on opening the lid, this would take about 3 seconds to clear.
Now the screen is completely black but I can faintly see the icons and move the mouse so I know the computer is fine. I can open icons ect.
I did notice the other day a small buzz then the screen went dark...although it would become bright again after a restart. Now it stays black too.
Where should I begin to find the fault?

Plug it into an external monitor and see if you get a clear picture on the external monitor. If you do then....
I would suspect the inverter or the backlight is going out.
The inverter is relative inexpensive to replace so I would start with that first.
Just make sure you match the part no of the one you have with the one you buy.
