Webcam is not working in windows 8.1

I would suggest you to uninstall and re-install USB roots hubs :

• Expand ‘Universal Serial Bus controllers’
• From the list, look for ‘USB Root Hub’
• Right click, choose ‘Uninstall’, choose ‘Ok’
• Uninstall all ‘USB Root Hub’ listed
• Wait for all the drivers to get uninstalled
• Restarted the computer
• Restarting the computer will install ‘USB Root Hub’s automatically on the computer

Thank you for sharing the screenshot of Device Manager. Right click on Unknown USB Input device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and select uninstall.

Click on other devices, if there are Unknown devices under other devices in Device Manager, please share it’s Hardware ID with us so that we can check out the missing device driver. Here are the steps:

• Press the key combination Windows Logo key + R key to open Run dialog box.
• Type in devmgmt.msc and click OK.
• Check if you see "?" or "!" in front of any device.
• Select your device and right click on it.
• Click Properties from the drop down list.
• Click Details and then click Device description button to select Hardware Ids.
• Share the Hardware Ids mentioned under Value.

Please provide us with screenshot of Network adapters in Device Manager.

You may press the area near webcam on the LCD bezel and see if it makes any difference. This is to check if there is an issue with loose webcam cable.

here is the screen shot of network adapters. 

I think there is connection problem between lid and motherboard. 

Last time when i close lid during skype video calling it shows error. 

after restart is was fixed.

Hello and thanks for the help. I was wondering if this issue is resolved before digging in and taking my xps apart to check the cable. I'm positive the driver in question is the webcam driver. 

Device manager says @ device ->Properties -> Device Instance Path: USB\VID_0000&PID_0002\6&D01F7BD&1&5

Then Under Capabilities: CM_DEVCAP_RAWDEVICEOK

That's for sure the camera. The device is on the root hub with a MS/Intel 3.0 driver but its generic and the dell driver doesn't install because of compatibility issues. So my guess is that the Intel/MS root hub driver isn't recognizing the camera properly. The solution would be a driver from dell or MS might patch it depending on how many systems this affects. In any case we need a driver for the webcam for windows 8.1.

Also, I have a triple boot system, Windows 7 Pro (x64), Windows 8 Pro (x64), Windows 8.1 Pro (X64). I can boot into any of the other two and the issue is gone and the webcam is recognized without problems. Boot into 8.1 and the problem is back. All Clean installs. Clean installed 8.1 twice thinking the issue was something bad in the install but the issue persisted. No info in event viewer. This rules out the cable being loose.

I hope this info helps further investigate the issue, I'd love to have my webcam working in 8.1. If you have any questions feel free to ask
