What is available in the UK
Could some one at Dell please tell us UK type people, why it is we are not offered the same build specifications as the USA? We already pay over the odds for the stuff any way but to be used as a dumping ground for unwanted stuff across the water seems a bit off to me.
I check the web site regularly to see what is available to build my required laptop, M1710 to find that today it is the 7900 graphics card fitted, only option. Yesterday it was the 7950, only option, why this too and fro all the time. Why don’t we have the same option to buy the special Red version of the M1710, I would like one. What about the 4Gb ram option in the USA, not here in Britain.
Have now put off the buying of one until the Vista launch having suffered the upgrade path before at the hands of Dell and also would dearly like the new DX10 graphics card, 88 some thing I believe.
I find Dell desktop and laptop computers good and have used them for many years now with my trusty Inspiron 8100 still going strong but showing signs of its age now. It has clocked up more miles than me flying around this planet and hope that when I do get my M1710 or whatever XPS model laptop it is then does as well as my current one. The Indian man that calls me every week offering me special deals is very nice but unable really to give me what I want.
So please Mr Dell, let me order what I want and not restrict me to slow lane of the computing world. When it comes to the beginning of February, lets have the nice red ones, blue ones, green ones or other colours of the rainbow to play with and boost the profits of Dell, you know it makes sense.

Europe's trade policies differ -- for one, as I recall, manufacturers are required to provide longer warranties on electronic products than they are in the US. That alone will raise prices.

Ok, so we have an answer about prices, yes things are more expensive here and trading terms as well, but it still does not answer why Dell does not offer what are ’standard’ computer components in the UK as they do in the USA. I know that some are tweaked by Dell and that is not a problem, but use the red version of the XPS M1710 for example, why not in the UK, any answers, beats me to come up with one. Why no 4Gb RAM option, yes it costs a lot and there may be little demand, but to offer it would cost almost zero on its web site with a note as used now on some options that by choosing this, it may slow your order down.
The Pre N draft wireless option, you can buy N draft stuff in the UK, why not give us the chance to have this option as well.
Dell failed to answer this one in my posting on the Direct to Dell web blog, why. Is it such a big secret it cannot be revealed, are they hiding some thing so devastating that if it got out, the company would fold.
Surely any chance to expand your sales and hence profits must be a good option for any company. Dell are not exactly doing that well that they can ignore their customers and if you read all the stuff that appears supposedly from Dell, they want to make the Dell experience so good, so open, so free of promotions, transparent, rebate free, value for money with an excellent customer support unit that can be understood by English speaking people that every one will want to buy a new Dell machine every year as they get better.
So come on Dell, be open, be transparent, tell the truth, and let us know why, not a lot really.

They do listen, there is a god. Checked today and what did I find, 4Gb ram option and the N wireless card option. So they take note of use users. Next, the nice red version and a DX10 graphics card, which is not out for any one yet.
Once Vista is out and about, the nice listening people at Dell will give us the DX10 graphics card and I will be happy. So come on end of January, I have money to spend and know what I want. Mr Dell, thanks for your help. Nice man, very nice man.
