Wifi not functioning for my Inspiron 6000
Hi-
Was using AT&T DSL with my Inspiron 6000,Intel Celeron M Processor 350 (1.30GHz/1MB Cache/400MHz FSB) which includes Intel PRO/ Wireless 2200(802.11b/g) Internal Wireless Inspiron 6000,Cel to connect using wireless with Netgear WGR614 54Mbps Wireless Firewall Router and all worked seamlessly. Then, DSL stopped functioning properly in my apt. due to old phone wiring. Only residing there another month so not going to pay to rewire. Switched to AT&T dial-up ( I know it's antiquated but a quick fix and felt since I have wifi capability, no biggie or so I thought...)
I am able to connect to the internet with the dial-up connection but when I try to connect via wireless connection, the wifi light on the laptop is lit and I show that my connection to the Netgear Network is excellent but when I click on the internet explorer icon the "page cannot be displayed" even though the connection is excellent. I've spent a considerable amt. of time trying to figure this out with no success. I'm hoping there's a quick fix for this and I can avoid having to call Dell Tech Support. Any guidance would be much appreciated, as I'm about to throw the laptop out the window!!!
Thanks!

This maybe a bone question, but...
Under internet options in the control panal have you select "Connect using my LAN" instead of the dialup option?

Thanks so much for the responses! I am by no means a "techy" but I think the problem is that I'm using a dial up connection rather than DSL or a cable modem. After searching through several different Dell tech support docs. I found something that said Dell doesn't recommend wireless communication if you're using a dial-up connnection so I think this is the problem. If anyone feels otherwise please please let me know....based on these findings, I don't think my wifi would work at starbucks since I don't have the DSL software installed on my computer any longer. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks!

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it. Finally broke down and called Dell tech support...turns out my wifi will only work in a "hot spot" environment since I've had to resort to using the old fashioned dial up connection rather than DSL or Cable Modem.
Thanks, again!

I doubt that you're WIFI card has gone bad. The fact that it is lighting up and connecting, albeit a poor connection, indicates it is working. Try right clicking on the wireless connection icon on the taskbar on the lower right had side of your screen. When the pop-up menu appears, select "Repair" and see if that does any good. Failing that, make sure that all of the network parameters are correctly set and if there are any security settings, that the data is properly setup for that. Good luck.

Icon: Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed, renewing your ip address.
How do I fix that?

If there is another computer in the area that connects wirelessly without difficulty, it's likely the network settings. Check the wireless network settings on that computer and be sure that the settings on the problem computer match (channel, SSID, encryption type - if enabled, key, etc.) match. Once you have those items set, reboot the machine and attempt to connect again. If it still doesn't work, try rebooting the router.
