Each monitor will require it's own video connector. If your system does not have 3 video connections then you will need some sort of external device to accomplish your needs.

Normally laptops will have only one video out besides the monitor.

The ATI 1270 will support a second monitor. After attaching monitor to the video port on the right side go in to Video Settings and "select monitor". make sure that " Extend desk top" is selected.

Hey Davet50 - thanks for the quick reply

I have one video connector on the side of the laptop (male 15 pin), but I also have an S-video TV-out connector on the back.  Does this count as an additional video connector?  Does this offer the same capability?

If this I can use the S-video as well as the traditional 15 pin video connector - then I may be able to support 2 external monitors with 2 independent images?

Sorry for appearing to be redundant; just don't want to drop another $350 for an external device if I don't have too.

Thanks!:emotion-1:

That may be possible not 100% sure also look in your manual it appears that with an external hookup you lose the LCD.

This is from you manual:

Switching the Video Image From Your Computer Display To a Projector

When you start the computer with an external device attached (such as an external monitor or projector) and turned on, the image may appear on either the computer display or the external device.

Press to switch the video image between the display only, the external device only, or the display and the external device simultaneously.

After upgrading from XP64 (D531) to Window 7, I found the X1270 ATI Radeon works fine but for one glitch.  When you shut down, the machine will not retain your settings and each time you boot back up, you must reset the monitor configuration.   I am running a second screen 1440x900 to the left of my laptop.  When I reboot, I see a duplicate image on both screens and have to reset.  I found an update for the R196207 download.  It is R205217.   Here's hoping it is fixed and not listed in the "these are the fixes for this driver" listing.

I tried the FN-F8 solution above - it works except the resolution collapses.   Currently the web pages do not provide a support function for Windows 7.
