XPS 13 9360 2017 ASF2 force off

I received my xps 13 very recently and occasionally the screen would turn black and the " windows was not properly shut down " error would appear. I looked at the BIOS logs and it turned out to be ASF2 force off error. I did the f12 diagnostics, both short and long one and there were no hardware problems found.  In 3 days, it happened at least 4-5 times.

I upgraded all my drivers and have also reset windows 10 once. I have no idea what to do next, this issue is surely ruining my experience with this lovely looking machine. Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thank You.

Not to hijack your post but I've the same laptop same issue... and I'm loosing my mind trying to figure this out. I've read it may be an issue with Intel's power management or the BIOS but I'm running dry on sources/options.

Update:

This person here has an ASF2 issue and it seems to be linked to dropbox. I'm not using dropbox but I am using googles backup and sync... and It seems to restart when I'm doing something that's syncing a ton.

I just updated the intel managment engine and things seem stable for the last 3 hours, but will update here tomorrow.

These kinds of problems make me regret my decision not to pursue software engineering.

The problem still continues, after updating Fall Creators Update and Intel Management Engine updates. I can not fit a pattern for this ASF2 reboots, as it happens quite randomly, not necessarily under heavy load or plugged/unplugged.

help?

I just got a new dell xps 13 and have the same problem. It has reboot on me thrice already (third time while I was typing this) and this is my first day using it properly.

I hope I can return it and get a refund.. So annoying..

I will also demand either a refund or a new machine. I noticed that when i am watching a video, it the ASF2 error appears much quicker. I have tried to watch Netflix and every time the error pops up within 5-10 mins of video playing. When i am not watching anything it does not happen that quickly. Not sure if that will help with the solution, but just wanted to put it out there.

Hoping that my problem will be taken care of next week.

Where are you watching video? Online? Which browser? I can try the same and see if I get the same problem. It hasnt happened to me last couple of days (after updating Windows).

I've noticed an odd thing right before mine restarts. When I moused over the batter to see the remaining it said 3hrs but after the asf2 restart it says 30 minutes .. there might be an issue with the battery or one of the power managements drivers somewhere ..

For people who might encounter the same problems, try uninstalling intel graphic driver and reinstalling it. ( from device manager, Intel UHD graphics and uninstall device.)

Hello,

I've been having the same issue with my month old XPS 13. I suspect it's an overheating problem as the unexpected shut downs occur only (in my experience) when my laptop is unplugged, not charging. By default, the System Cooling Policy (in Power Options) is set to "Passive" when on battery (unplugged) and is set to "Active" when plugged in and charging. When I changed it to "Active" while on battery, my XPS lasted much longer before shutting down again unplugged. I've never had my laptop shut down unexpectedly while charging (well, not yet I guess).

(I had to follow the process outlined here to change to "Active" as it did not show up initially: www.eightforums.com/.../51043-power-options-add-remove-system-cooling-policy.html)

Currently, I'm trying to find a way to control the fans and fan speed as I have a hunch that they're not as active as they should be. I haven't had any luck yet. I'll let you know what I figure out.
