XPS 15 9550 i7 CPU capped to 0.8GHz

Hello,

My XPS 15 (i7 6700hq) is performing very poorly lately. I used to have issues when alternating from power to battery use and CPU would get stacked at 0.8GHz.

Now, CPU won't go above 0.8GHz no matter what I do, making the laptop unusable for demanding tasks.

I have tried unabling SpeedStep and TurboBoost, updating BIOS and changing power profiles; nothing works though.

I need help please.

Thank you in advance,

Does the system correctly identify the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.

Is this the original Dell AC adapter?

Yes, it is the original Dell AC adapter.  In the BIOS the adapter is identified as "AC Adapter=130w"; so it seems to be correct.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm running into the same problem with the same system.

Thanks

Dean.

A known issue. Open the bottom cover and disconnect the battery for a while. Not difficult, the service manual is available online if you need detailed instructions.
