For compatibility assurance, contact the vendor.  If they cannot or will not guarantee compatibility, be sure you understand their return-restock-shipping fee policies.

Max RAM speed on all Intel mobile chipset notebooks is 667 MHz - PC2-6400 will run at 667 MHz.

Intel has not yet released a mobile chipset that can run RAM at 800 MHz.

As suggested... any decent 667MHz SODIMM will work fine.

I personally upgraded the standard 2GB of RAM in my XPS M1730, to 4GB Patriot Signature PC2-5300.

It cost me just £65 for the 2x 2GB kit.

Similarly... I bought my elder son 4GB OCZ PC2-5400 for his laptop, for just £60.

And I bought my younger son 2x 2GB [individual] sticks of A-Data PC-5300 for his laptop, which were on special offer at the time, and cost me just £18.69 + VAT each... £44.74 delivered (delivery was only 99p)!!

(It's still only £19.99 / £23.49 (+ P&P) from Tekheads if you're interested :smileywink: )

I decided to buy and fit the RAM myself, primarily because Dell are asking £70, just to upgrade from 2GB - 4GB :smileysurprised:
