XPS15 9550 BSOD VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE igdkmd64.sys

The Intel HD Graphics 530 driver version 21.20.16.4590 permanently blue screens with the message:

VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE igdkmd64.sys

I managed to roll back the driver fast enough only in low resolution mode and with the touch screen, the flickering prevented me from using a mouse.

Working driver: 20.19.15.4483

Please stop distributing 21.20.16.4590

Yup. Bought mine 8 months ago, and have the exact same issue.

I also have problems with the igdkmd64.sys video file!

I have exactly the same problem with a brand new XPS 9550. Since it is new there is no installed driver to rollback to. The system will not remain stable for more than 30 minutes before the BSOD with the "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. What failed:igdkmd64.sys" message. It would be helpful is someone from Dell could reply to this message with instructions on how to download and install a  working driver and what to do to stop the working driver being 'updated' to the newer fault driver until a fixed driver is released.

Another brand new XPS 9550 and same problem.  Contacted DELL support and after giving remote access (which I won't do again) no better. Other messages from DELL support which included statements such as "I understand that you’re having some difficulty with Activation of Windows" suggested the NVIDIA driver which did not help. Finally I found the new Intel driver for my OS (Win10 64) here downloadcenter.intel.com/.../Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-45-. Installed this and all seems well one day later so fingers crossed.

Here is the key to the kingdom (all previous drivers, software, etc.):

downloads.dell.com/.../xps-15-9550-laptop.html

v20.19.15.4531 should work. Make sure you get the Windows 10 version.

Good luck,

Yep, another XPS with the same exact issue here.

I get that rollouts have problems sometimes but once problems start popping up there needs to be a quick rollback or update; as in, within a couple days not several weeks. Why hasn't anyone from Dell responded here with an official  solution or workaround?

I spent a lot of money with the assumption that I would be getting a stable machine. If Dell is trying to convince me to make my next machine a Mac, they're doing a fantastic job. I want the experience of owning this machine to be positive but am currently struggling.

We have 7 (seven) -  XPS15 9550 laptops in our office.  I had to roll back drivers on ALL of them.  They all had the same problem after the windows update was pushed out the first week of April.  Intel refers you back to Dell since "Dell changes the drivers".  So far after rolling back the drivers all but 1 computer reupdated the drivers.  This is something suggested by a person on the Intel site to prevent it from auto updating again.

1. Download Microsoft's "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter package from here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

2. Run the troubleshooter and hit "Next"

3. Click on "Hide Updates" and check off "Intel Corporation - Display - 21.20.16.4590" and hit next

4. Once the troubleshooter has hidden the update, close out of it. You can confirm that the update is hidden by running it again.

This should prevent this problem from recurring after you've reverted back to the old driver. Hopefully Dell will fix the broken driver file. Intel has washed their hands of it.

Thanks for the info, been fighting this issue for a week or so.   Rollback driver...and it would be updated to latest within a day.   As suggested, the latest Intel driver has been hidden and it seems to be working.   BTW, model with issue is a 9550 with touchscreen/4k display.  We have another 9550 without 4k display and this is running fine with latest drivers.   Love the 4k model...but it has caused the most headaches since initial purchase, mainly due to similar driver/software issues.

Screen kept flickering on and off at Windows boot up, so reverted back to Working driver: 20.19.15.4483 as mentioned at the top of the post and it has solved the problem (24 hours later no recurrence)

Here's how I recovered the older drivers because the roll back wasn't available.

1. Go to the Dell Support site and enter your service tag    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/

2.  Click on Drivers and Downloads then the "Find It Myself" tab

3. Click on Video and click on "Other Version" and you should see an older version.

4.  I was able to download the 20.19.15.4531,A08 version. It will auto-install once you download and click on it.  You will have to accept to overwrite the newer drivers.

I hope this works for you.  So far I haven't had any other issues. Good luck!
