advise on replacement Inspiron 1525 screen
Has anyone had any luck replacing the Inspiron 1525 screens?
To be more exact; does anyone know if you can us a generic screen (same part# as Dell) versus the "Made for Dell" screens?
I've been doing some research on the Internet and have found several sites that offer the screen I'm looking for:
AU Optronics: B154EW02 v.7 15.4" Glossy screen
They offer a "generic" B154EW02 v.7 screen for approx. $65 (in stock). Then they offer a Made for Dell B154EW02 v.7 screen for approx. $144 (not in stock)
Is there really a difference between the two screens? They're both AU Optronics, have the same spec's and part# but the one is "Made for Dell".
Can the "generic" screen be used without any problems? Plus, twice the money! What could be the difference?
Any suggestions or insight?
Thanks,
brad

It depends on the willingness of the vendor to guarantee compatibility. Notebooks recognize only those LCDs they're coded for in BIOS - if you use a different screen, all sorts of things can happen - black screen until Windows loads, multiple images, etc.
Don't just buy by specification - you really do need to use a screen the system will recognize.

I'm trying to use all the information that's actually on the back of the screen.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had any luck finding replacement screens, where that got them and which type; generic or Made for Dell.
I'm assuming if I stick with the Manufacturer Brand and model#'s I would be ok.
Thanks you for your input.

Your best bet is an exact replacement part (if the complete model number is the same, the screen is identical).
