can not download attachements

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 which has suddenly decided to open random email attachements. I can open these attachements from other computers just not my laptop.  I click on the attachment in my yahoo email, it runs the Norton Anti virus, asked if I want to download, I click open and then it to getting file and doesn't go any further.  Any suggestions.....
