dell inspiron 2200
I understand that there is a code that will tell a person what generally is wrong with your computer when is will only come on for approx. 30 seconds. No boot to bios or or running the operating program( windows xp). The computer comes on for about 30 to 45 seconds then turns off. The indicator with the (A)lock blinks eight times before ti turns off. How can I get information concerning this blinking code? Is this public knowledge?

Reseat (remove and reinstall) the memory module (Under a door at the bottom of the system).
Unplug and remove the battery before doing this.

Did as you instructed. I still have the same problem. The (a) indicator blinks 8 times and the computer shuts down.

Try without the memory in the socket. If that works, either the memory module or the socket is bad.
If it doesn't, then the base RAM (which is soldered to the system board) is bad - replace the mainboard.
