Hi,

If you are saying it wont boot unless docked, try with a VGA screen plugged in the back. It may have a bad suspend switch, so it thinks the lid is closed and shuts down. Give a try and post back, if so the part is around US $ 8.00 I can send you a link if needed.

Hi,

If it wont boot with a VGA screen, then it may not be the suspend switch. It may be a fault with the MBD. You can try taking out the HDD, it should give an error [ boot with a message ] without the HDD even not docked. This can rule out a config problem. There are many part numbers for a MBD, depending on the speed of the CPU, so if you need to get one, be aware of this. Does there seem to be any damage to the connection on either the Dock or Lap-top ?

Hi,

MBD is motherboard, it may be the fault. Without the HDD, it should boot and give an error in the Dock, or without.

Hi,

The MBD has the video included. Does the LCD works correctly ? It is stange, normally with these symptoms the suspend switch is at fault. Common in your model. If you have a multi-meter, you can test the reed switch. [ the suspend switch ] It is in the I / R board, with the LED's and mic. at the front of the RHS. It is a glass tube, with the contacts activated by a magnet in the display. When they go bad, normally you can boot with an external screen connected. There is also a setting in Bios, it may be worth trying. The suspend switch comes with the MBD, but if it is at fault will be cheaper. I think you can remove the assy which will then let the computer work, other posters have done so before.

Hi,

The glass tube is part of the assembly that you can buy 2nd hand for around US $8.00 The assy can be removed for testing, I recall another post where the MBD was at fault, but there ae many that have been fixed changing the assy. mentioned. If not at fault, I think you will looking at a MBD, which will take around an hour to change. [ first time ]

                                                                             Regards Chris
