Hi Ash,
Inspiron 1440 laptop is not a tested and certified system to work with Windows 8. Therefore 'Windows 8' compatible drivers for your system are not available on Dell support website. The following steps have been producing positive results. You may want to try to see if it works for you.

- Click the following link to download the latest Bluetooth driver: http://dell.to/ZLthyj
- Save the folder (zipped folder) on the 'Desktop screen'
- Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R228749.exe
- The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R228749
- Click Ok
- After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor window is still open, close it
- Open the following path: C:\dell\Drivers\83V6K\Win64 (Select Win32 if 32 bit OS is installed)
- Click 'Computer' and drive letter 'C'
- Locate folder 'dell' and double click it
- Locate folder 'Drivers' and double click it
- Locate folder '83V6K'
- Locate folder 'Win64' and double click it (Select Win32 if 32 bit OS is installed)
- Locate file Inst (Refer to the image below)
- Right click file 'Inst'
- Click 'Run as an administrator'
- Click 'Yes' to continue if prompted with 'User access control' message
- Follow through with the installation as per the screen instructions
- Finish the installation and check for the Bluetooth functionality
- If issue persists, try using the 'setup' file to install drivers in compatibility mode (Next Step)
Install 'Setup.exe' file in 'compatibility Mode'
- Navigate to C:\dell\Drivers\83V6K\Win64 (Select Win32 if 32 bit OS is installed)
- Right click ‘Setup’ file and click ‘Properties’
- Click “Install in compatibility mode’
- Click on Application and select ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’
- Next, click on ‘Troubleshoot Program’
- Click on Program worked in earlier versions of Windows
- Click on ‘Windows 7’
- Click on ‘Start the Program’
- Do not hit ‘Next’ until the installation completes
- Once the installation completes, click on ‘Next’
Note: Though the recommended steps have exhibited some positive results, you may still experience bluetooth issues as the laptop is not tested to work optimally with Windows 8. You may want to have a look at the list of all Dell systems tested with Windows 8: http://dell.to/SQojxk
Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to help.

Windows 7 software from Dell will not work. Your mouse will disconnect many times, your mobile phone will not connect etc. The only way to make it work as it should is to download Broadcom software for Windows 8 from ASUS version 12.0.0.1600 for P8Z77-V DELUXE motherboard. No other version will work doesn't matter older or newer. Now you have the software installed, you will have to update the driver for Dell 365 manually. The only driver for 365 and Windows 8 is 12.0.0.10 and its available on Windows update. Just update the driver manually from device manager. I have tested all software versions and non of them will work better than this.
If you are using Dell BT travel mouse SetPiont 4.80 from Dell will not work. You can use SetPiont 6.51 from Logitech, it is the same software but without Dell logo and it's made for Windows 8.
