disable audio card in BIOS?

i have an Inspiron 9100 for high end music applications.

i was advised by those running desktops to disable my internal soundcard in my BIOS, as i use a high end external one.

but it doesn't seem possible.  7 little pages that hardly let you control anything.  am i missing something?

you can't ...  you should be able to tell windows which card to use though

no notebook of any brand that I know of has an option like that (desktops with integrated sound do but that's different)

if any pc-card or USB sound card vendor is blaming things on that then they're just covering for their bad drivers ...   seriously, call tech support for any notebook and ask if you can do that -- I can almost promise that you won't be able to

i was afraid of that...thanks for the info.

apparently, there can be interference (like i'm having) between the two and it's best to disable it in the BIOS so Windows just plain never knows its there..

oh well...thanks again

On some of the Dell laptops, enabling the Infrared in BIOS will disable the sound, becauce they both try to use the same IRQ
