error msg: fan - the(processor fan) fan failed to respond correctly - in a new
brand dell computer
Hello, i have recently purchase new computer(two weeks ago). Yesterday, I recieve an error which saying 'msg: fan - the(processor fan) fan failed to respond correctly'. could you help me?
Note:While updating BIOS, AC adapter should be plugged in, battery should be adequately charged (>10%), and all external peripherals should be disconnected from the system.
Sorry for the delay in response.I was out of office on weekly off.
If the system is not booting to Windows then you may not be able to update BIOS.To run diagnostics you will have to tap F12 on start up,Dell logo and select Diagnostics.I believe you have already tried running the diagnostics and that's how you got that error code.
Do you get any error message when you turn on the system normally? Does the system get stuck on a particular screen? Does the system stay on or does it turn off automatically after you start the system?
I have the same problem with Dell XPS 13-9333. The fan is always at full speed, even when the CPU is idle, even the OS is not loaded. It starts about 4 seconds after switching the laptop on, even if I just go into BIOS. The speed is invariably over 6000 rpm.
If I press F12 at boot and do diagnostics, I get the following message:
error code 2000-0511 validation 122466 Msg: Fan - The (Processor Fan) fan failed to responde correctly
I have exactly the same problem. The computer was running perfectly until today, I start the computer and suddenly the fan is running at full speed. I ran the diagnostics and I got the same code.
I downloaded the last bios and installed, even thought the installer told me that I was in the same version (A04).
Are there any good suggestions for fixing Dell fans besides updating the BIOS?
My fan has been running at top speed for over a year now. Recently the computer shuts down when it overheats. I ran diagnostics on it today via the F12 boot options and found the CPU to get to 100 C and the same "Fan failed to respond correctly" message as above (Error Code 2000-0511). And this is with the most recent BIOS onboard (L321XA08).
Are there any helpful suggestions out there for fixing this problem? I'm tired of my laptop burning me and shutting down unexpectedly.
I have had zero help from Dell, through these forums or from calling them directly. Apparently the hardware was faulty on many XPS 13 9333, and they are not wlling to do anything about it, same as with the coil wire issue.
In my case, nothing could be done about the fan with software. I eventually handed mine in to the repairs people, and they said the controller was faulty and needed to be replaced. I am still waiting for them to get the right one, though.
Sad to hear. But also good to know that I just don't need to buy Dell anymore if they're being this unhelpful. I've looked through several online fora at this point, and have found nothing helpful. I guess I'll do the same and find a good repair shop who can help. Good luck getting your's fixed.

Hi nivsheme,
Welcome to the Community,
Sorry you're having trouble with your new system.
I would suggest you to update BIOS and run the diagnostics, (tap F12 on start up, select Diagnostics), to confirm if you get the same error.
Use this link to download and update latest BIOS : lt.dell.com/.../lt.aspx
Note:While updating BIOS, AC adapter should be plugged in, battery should be adequately charged (>10%), and all external peripherals should be disconnected from the system.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank You
