i8600 - Possible to boot from a PCMCIA hard drive?

My question is simple, and i can't seem to find an answer - Is it possible to boot from a PCMCIA drive?  The one-time boot menu does not seem to have that option.

If not, is it possible to boot to a USB flash drive that can somehow install some DOS drivers to access the PCMCIA drive (e.g. if you've for example installed Windows 98SE on it)?

Would love to know if there are any plans to allow for this - or if a solution already exists.... ;)

Thanks,

Ran

It's not possible to boot from PCMCIA, but you may be able to build a boot CD (knoppix). If you use DOS (95/98/ME) chances are you're going to have to buy a PCMCIA support service package like the old Card Wizard program.

I'm not sure about the 8600 - however I have booted from a USB floppy on a 5150. They are pretty inexpensive. Also the built in CD - using the OS disk to format, etc.

thanks for the replies.

I have successfully booted from my usb floppy - but I would very much like to access my Toshiba 5GB 1.8" PCMCIA hard drive after booting from the usb drive, or even better - rather than the usb drive.

I guess, though, we need to wait for a BIOS update or something?

The 8600 has seen its last BIOS update - it is a legacy system now, having reached end of life.
