inspiron N5010 touchpad problem

My inspiron laptop which is 13months old has suddenly developed a touchpad problem. The main touchpad is fine, with the cursor moving properly around the screen and double click works fine when selecting something. It is the two buttons underneath which don't work, both left and right hand buttons. I have tried system restore and checked everything is enabled but can't seem to get any joy. Most help forums have only solutions for main touch pad and cursor and not the tap buttons underneath.

1.A simple test lets you test the hardware of the touchpad

press F2 at power up - the BIOS menu appears:move the cursor to one of those "+" -signs and press the left touchpad key. Does it open the sub menu? If not you seem to have a hardware problem- for a more accurate test=>

2.press F12 at power up - choose Dell Diagnostics - test system - custom test - look for touchpad options.....

(I assume that my inspiron 1545 is similar to your system regarding BIOS and diagnostics)
