lcd screen requires pressure for backlight to work?!

hi all,

i inherited a Latitude CPi D233ST from a friend who told me that the screen was not working. after viewing the forums i assumed that either the backlight or the inverter is the source of the problem. however, as i disassembled the lcd and was fooling around with it to narrow down the source, i discovered that applying pressure to a region just left off center on the lcd turns the backlight on (and releasing the pressure makes the backlight go off). anyone has any idea what could be going on?

i tried to disassemble as much as i could before i started getting cold feet and i decided to stop before i damage the good parts.

any help will be appreciated!

Hi,

It could be the LCD, cable or invertor. Have a good look at the cable, and reseat them all. After that try some pressure on the various parts to find the problem.

I think i'm having a similar problem with my C600's LCD screen as well. It seems that certain angles and pressure applied to the screen activates the backlight with a 50/50 chance of it staying on. When this happens certain portions of my display become distorted with discolored horizontal lines. Again, if I fiddle with the display and apply pressure it will go away - sometimes. Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

It may be worth replacing it. If you keep twisting it, it will lead to damage. http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&start=15&id=18 This link is for some 2nd hand ones. Reseat all the cables, and if that doesnt help, I would look at replacing it.

Thanks Chris. I actually downloaded a PDF manual for the C600 and attempted dissasembly of the LCD. I reseated all cables and now everything SEEMS fine. I'll monitor the situation and keep my fingers crossed.
