I thought that it was straight forward after that.
For Win 7 Go to Start > All Programs > Default Programs
Then select Associate a file type
Then choose the file extension that you want to change. In this case, I chose .docx Then select Change Program
Then select the program that you want the file extension to open with. If you want it to open with that program all the time, then make sure "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is checked. If the program is not there, you can use the Browse button to choose the program EXE file that you want to use. Since you had it associated with the program that you wanted at one time, the program should be listed already.
NOTE: You can click on the images for a larger view.
but the file type exe is not listed there what i was talking about is the fact that all exe open a serration exe file and it will not go off of that serration exe no mater what
I think I understand the issue. If not, please advise where I have it wrong.
When searching for this list for the extension, you will not look for the EXE extension but of the file type that you want to change what program is associated with it.
In this example, I wanted to change the default program that opens the file type .docx. Scoll down the list and find the file type (not an EXE file) that you want to change. Here you can see that I have the .docx file selected. Then click on the Change program button.
In this window, choose the program that you want to be the default program associated with the file type that you selected. Note, in my case it is the .docx file type.
As you can see, the two program that are suggested to open this file type .docx are Microsoft Word and Wordpad. I selected Microsoft Word, made sure that the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file was checked and clicked the OK button.
If the program that you want to use is not in the Recommended Program list, you can use the dropdown list for more suggestions.

You do not say what your Operating system is.
For Win XP go here
support.microsoft.com/.../307859
For Win 7
Go to Start > All Programs > Default Programs

I'm not really sure whay you mean by "open a serration exe file".
If the program is not in that last window, then use the Browse button to find it.
