no power management in BIOS
Hi,
I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron 1501, BIOS 2.6.3, the last update form the Dell support site. I'd like to set it up to restart itself after a blackout, but there is no power management option in this BIOS. Is there another BIOS compatible with Inspiron 1501 having that option?

Hi,
Welcome to the Community.I have checked on it, the BIOS version 2.6.3 is the latest BIOS available for Inspiron 1501.This is the only tested and approved BIOS version from Dell for Inspiron 1501.

Thanks for the reply! I checked on it myself too before posting here. So, I knew it's the latest BIOS available from Dell, but that doesn't solve my issue. I hope to find an older BIOS having power management activated or a hidden menu, or a reason why on my laptop the power management page (which I understood it should be there on most of Dell machines) doesn't show up. So, do you see any solution to get this power management on my Inspiron? I'm using this laptop to monitor an activity in a remote place and I need it to be able to woke up by itself after a blackout.

In Windows it's only battery management. No blackout management. That can be done only in the bios.

There is no "wake-up after blackout" option in the ACPI applet in XP.

Depending on the power down times, you could get a large uninterruptible power supply and set power settings to have un-necessary functions, such as the screen, wi-fi and hard drive shut off and set the CPU to minimum speed. off.

I'm not interested to keep it running during the blackout, so no need for a UPS or turning off un-necessary functions. I just want it to go completely off as soon it runs out of battery (if the blackout last longer than few hours) and when the power come back that it starts automatically.

Does anyone know how to enable in a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop the BIOS features "AC Power Loss Restart" or "Power Up On PCI Device" to enable the "Wake-On-LAN" features? There is no Power management tab in the most recent BIOS for this laptop. Any idea how to make this laptop recover after a blackout? It could be done by itself if "AC Power Loss Restart" is enabled, or it's possible to do it over the LAN from another device if "Wake-On-LAN" is enabled. I don't see how to do any of them as long the BIOS has no power options. Thanks!
