power block and motherboard problems

Question

I am having problems with my inspiron 5160.The computer will not work on the mains,or the battery as I now can not charge the battery,have been told that I have to replace the mother board as the power block is conected to the mother board,How expensive is  anew motherboard in england.And any help would be really helpfull as this is not an old computer it is only 18 months old,and I dont want to buy a new computer

In the US, the boards run $US400-500; you will have to check for the UK prices.

I had the same problem with my Inspiron 600m and got the same answer from dell.  For them to fix it, I was told it would be about $700 US.  I have no idea how much UK.

In responce to your problem. I have had similar issues with my inspiron 8200. There are a few layers of hardware that is responsible (or could be) for a problem such as that. Of Course Dell would WANT you to spend money on the most expensive thing that it COULD be. The power flow to the computer / batteries is as follows: Power outlet - power cord - powersupply brick - output cord from brick - power connector on laptop - BATTERY CHARGER BOARD - MOTHERBOARD. So you can see that the mobo (motherboard) is the last thing in the list. I have checked or changed every part other than the motherboard on my system and I STILL have the problem. I believe that the motherboard is the culpret for this problem unfortunately. So, i hope that my many months and hours upon hours of disassembly and parts swaping from known good computers has something to help you in your search for a resolution to your problem.
