screen on studio 1535 goes blank
Laptop: Dell Studio 1535, 4gig Ram, Windows 7 (with all recent updates).
Over the past few days the screen on my laptop has started to flicker, then just go black all of a sudden. Sometimes i can still see the desktop but it is very very faint. I plugged the laptop in to an external monitor and the display on the monitor is fine, so i'm assuming there is a problem with the display on the laptop. I have done a bit of digging and all the connections internally seem ok, nothing loose.
If i replace the inverter (P927C), would the problem would be solved? Or would i need a new screen cable (P905C)? (or both)?

Hi beefmonster,
Yes the LCD is faulty. The flickering of LCD may be due to LCD cable or the faulty Inverter.
Also, please consider re-seating the LCD cable couple of times to check if the flickering reduces or not. By this, you may determine if its LCD cable issue or not.

Usually if the screen flickers before failing, it's the backlight -- not the inverter.

thanks for the reply. I did indeed reseat the lcd cable but it made no real difference. I'm assuming that means the inverter is on it's way out?

by flicker i mean it rapidly goes dark-light-dark-light, then dark completely. Is there any test i can do to see if it is the back light or the inverter? And if it were the backlight, is that available seperately or would i need a whole new lcd screen?

Hi beefmonster,
The tests available from Dell can only distinguish if the LCD is faulty or not. There are no separate tests available for individual components in LCD for cable, Inverter or backlight.
If its backlight issue there is no separate part available to replace it, you will need to replace the entire LCD on the system.

ok so i replaced the inverter, the screen came back to life! Used it for a whole battery cycle, then closed the lid. A few hours later, i plugged the mains in and turned it on again...and the screen is going black again. This time it will stay normal (lit) for about 5 seconds then black out. Again, everything is fine plugged into an external monitor (how i'm making this post).
So if it's not the inverter, what else can it be? The lcd screen cable?

Hi,
The issue may be due to the backlight on the LCD, which is not available as a separate part you may have to replace whole LCD unit.
