8 beep while startup in Dell Inspiron n5010
Hi,
When i switch my laptop (Dell inspiron n5010) on it beeps for 8 times and then a pause and repeats again. I called dell customer service center, they asked for service tag. I bought the the laptop on dec, 2010 and service tag at the back of the laptop is not clear and partially erased. I have only the last few digits of service tag and express code visible. Can anyone plz help me find the service tag or reply with a solution to get my laptop work...

Hi vigneshk,
8 beeps generally indicate LCD failure. I would suggest you to disconnect the LCD cable from the motherboard and you should not be getting the beeps anymore. The system will not be able to detect LCD if the cable is removed and this might take care of the beeps. For Owner’s manual, please refer to the link: http://bit.ly/REGhS6.
You may check the system service tag by following the steps below:
Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.

Hi vigneshk,
I would suggest you to reseat the LCD first. Disconnect it and then connect it back again. If that doesn’t work then LCD is needed to be replaced.
If the system is covered under warranty, you may provide me the Service Tag and the name as it appears on the account via private message (click my username and then click Start a Private Message) so I may access your records and we will take it further from there.
Hope this helps. Feel free to reply for any further assistance.

Alright!
So here was my problem:
Ive searched enough forums and tried everything!
But today I put myself to shame by finally giving it to the repair shop.He used his multimeter and immediately told me this part (circled in red) had to be replaced. He called it Display IC. In Indian rupees, it cost me 1200 rupees (20 dollars). And voila! It's done!
I do not guarantee if this will work forever but I will keep you guys posted if anything goes wrong. I made this dell account specifically to help people like me. :emotion-43:
I'll keep you posted!
