Blinking Red on Inspiron 600M battery
The computer autmoatically shut down while running on the battery last night - no charge left. I plugged it in this morning hoping the battery would charge. Instead a red light continued to blink for about an hour and the Power Meter showed no indication of the battery charging - it remained at 0%. I shut down, restarted, removed the battery and put it back in - didn't help. Of course, removing the battery completely works.
I pressed the energy detector on the back of the batter and 3 lights (every other) flash, and then they all light up for a second and then all go dark.
Does this need a new battery? I don't use it with just the battery that often, and I've had it for almost 2 years. I do use it with the adaptor plugged in, with the battery still in, for extended periods of time every day.
The number on the battery, 0C2603, is subject to a recall, but when I put in the rest of the numbers on the recall pages the site said it didn't need to be replaced.
Can anyone help?

Dell Forum, I own a Inspiron 600M and on 4/1/2006 today my 2 year old 600M battery stopped recharging. I checked the Power Status and was shown this message on the
Power status : Online, Critical Total battery Power running :0%
Detailed information for Battery # 1 Batt Name : Dell Y13384 Unique Id : 2214 Chemistry : LION Sanyo Dell Y 13384 Manufacturer Sanyo.
I should be verfying that the battery has given up the recharging cycle but I will post this question to all readers. How do I verify battery failure. My Inspiron switches off immediately when I disconnect the AC power source.
Please post and prompt me your collective wisdom.I am quite certain this problem is similar to the prior message on Blinking Red Inspiron 600M battery.

If the LED stays on when plugged into the notebook, replace the battery. If the battery still won't charge, the mainboard is faulty.

Hi Diamond, Thank you. The AC adaptor is fine. I want to find out but cannot from the DELL technicals what kind of battery Lithium Ion I must buy. According to Dell Australia websites, I think the 600M(510M?) uses a squarish looking battery ( 4 cell?), ( the other a rectagular and longish looking battery? Tried calling support etc , the usual long wait and run around. I did not get my answer. I tried support but cannot get email support because of warranty runout. A closed system when you are trying to get across the support system checks for warranties.
