CHANGE LID COLOR OF DELL INSPIRON 1720
I purchased a brand new red lid for my Inspiron 1720 to replace the horrid pink one that it came with. I was given this laptop by my aunt. I looked in the Dell system manual, but it does not show what is needed to change the lid color. I have the bezel removed, the lcd separated from the bezel, the lid separated from the screen and bezel, the whole thing removed from the chassis, but it has wires going down through the computer and to the back side underneath the WLAN CARD. It looks as if I might need to tear the whole computer apart to get to these wires.
I really don't want to go any further as I am not sure what needs to be done, and the manual does not show what needs to be done. I have called dell and got the run around passed from extension to extension, repeated my name, phone number, and service tag till I am blue in the face and at this point I am extremely frustrated. What I thought was something simple has turned into a nightmare.
Im sure there is a nice illustration or guide somewhere that will make this process painless. All I need is someone to point me in the right direction.

That pink lid was for supporting women's cancer research. Maybe thinking of that would help you tolerate it. You might not be able to change the lid without dismantling the computer which could void the warranty. I assume you already have seen this Service Manual.

The warranty has expired. I really don't think me hanging on to this pink lid is going to help breast cancer research. Yes I have seen the service manual and it does not specify what is required to remove the lid

I tried finding info on the web and didn't find anything useful. Maybe a local computer shop or repair person you trust? A pink lid would drive me crazy too.

No one said that keeping the pink lid is going to help anything, but it was to help you understand about why it was pink and that it represented the important fight to cure breast cancer.
Showing a bit of maturity would help you as you go on in life.

I took the whole thing apart just to find where those wires go to. They dont go anywhere, they are just tucked in a sleeve on the back side of the motherboard. I got it all back together and replaced. Turns out I need a red bezel to match the red lid. The bezel has a strip of the pink on each side.
Now I know that to replace it, all you have to do is remove the bezel, lcd, keyboard

Wow. Take your own advice. Not judging people might help you as you "go on in life"
I have not put down breast cancer research. All I did was express that I want to change the color of the lid. I do not need to know the reason it is pink, I just wanted to change it.
Thank you for derailing my thread further.

Hey, I know I'm really late on this thread. I hope you got it figured out a long time ago. But I'm in the process of replacing the same horrid lid on my 1720 in spite of having a great deal of respect for *** cancer researchers, victims and survivors. I have MCed two local fund raisers for the Pink Daisy Project. I lost a friend to *** cancer. And none of that has changed the fact that the lid is still pepto bismal ugly.
So, after doing a lot of looking around myself and not finding a better answer, I think I am going to try using the original wiring. I will remove the new wiring from the new lid and store or discard it, leave the existing wiring attached under the WLAN card, and tape the existing wiring inside the new lid. I just received the new lid from parts-people dot com. Wish me luck!
