Can't find out how to disable TAP TO CLICK FUNCTION.

Thanks, I searched and realized that in the metro start screen there was a function to turn off taps altogether after I re-enabled the setting.

This might be a dollar short and a day late but:  I just acquired a brand new xps 13 for a customer and had to experience the same.  Dell Tech support in India after 30 mins gave me the answer! Here's the deal:  Dell is too cheap to have whomever the manufacturer of the Touch pad is, to provide a Full Featured Driver!  Because they are relying on the semi-advanced controls within the Metro Side of Windows 8.1. They are located by going to the Metro Screen settings by clicking in the lower Right Corner and click the Gear " Settings " then " Change PC Settings" on the bottom in text, then " PC and devices", and then "Mouse and Touch pad"....and finally the last straw on the very bottom....click the Down Arrow and choose " Turn off Taps"! You'll perhaps wish to also change the 'Reverse Scrolling Direction" to on ( to me this is backwards...but so be it), and at the top on the horizontal bar " choose how many lines to scroll each time( set to taste).

In a Car, the infinite smooth response of the Steering is what makes driving possible!  Can you imagine driving a car where the Steering response is 'notched' as opposed to Infinitely Smooth!

My 10 year old XPS 15" has a Synaptics Touchpad with a Smooth long Distance Scroll!  WHY oh WHY this was abandoned? I dunno.  I've been on a MacBook with a smooth infinite Scroll !

You can get to the Settings Menu on the Charms bar from either the Metro Start Page or the Desktop using the same swipe. Dell did NOT put the touchpad variables in the Settings. Microsoft did this for all laptops using a Precision touchpad. Dell doesn't write the OS or modify it.

Hi all ... I've just received a Dell XPS 9343 running Win 8.1. I've gone around and around to try to get control of the precision touchpad. After installing the Cypress drivers, I've been able to turn off right clicks and reverse the scrolling (I've no idea how to describe the scrolling I like, but basically I don't like the scrolling Apple rolled out called 'natural' - lol).

I just got off Tech support with a really nice guy in Delhi -- he dug around, swapped out drivers and tried all combinations. He wasn't able to turn off 'touch to click' -- I really like this hardware, but this is a deal breaker for me. I can't stand errant touch clicks (drive me nuts) and only want clicks which are mechanical.

I'm going to call Dell tomorrow and request a refund and return this machine to them. The fact I cannot control the touch pad out of the box and a huge problem. I realize Win10 is coming and might very well take care of this, but I don't want to take that chance. I was willing to spend 4-6 hours to try to get the correct driver, but the fact none exist is a deal breaker. I can think of another company, which makes computers that "just work". :)

If anyone has a quick solution for this one, please share. I do have a driver, which gives me to option to turn off tap clicking, but the setting isn't taking effect.

I don't have a Windows 8 machine to give you 'exact instructions...( the one had was for a client ).....but anyway....here goes =

ON the bottom right with your mouse. The Metro will appear. If my memory is serving me and you...you want 'PC settings" and then you want to dig into it to find the advanced touch pad/mouse settings.

In there you can turn off Tap to click......its at the 'bottom and you HAVE to  click the Drop Down to even see it!  The 'Reverse Scroll" is in the Main Menu. I recommend you set the Scrolling to '8 lines' at the top. Play with it to get it to 'taste'.

Thanks for the reply -- I'll note that the option you describe in the PC Settings includes everything other than "tap to click" ... I scrolled down to the very bottom, looked around around and nothing. I'm on hold right now to speak with Dell directly.

It IS there!   syntax : meaning the 'language' used is not exact to be kind :-(

And it IS in a 'Dropdown' !!!

One MUST change the choice in the drop down to only THEN see 'the Tap to Click' appear

The easiest way I found out was to uninstall Dell Touchpad from programs, restart go to dell's website, and reinstall program. This might have to happen every time your update Windows 10.
