Dell Inspiron 1545 CD/DVD Drive Problems - Won't Recognize CD's
Hi. I have kind of an interesting issue. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit. Has been a great machine. A few months ago, kind of out of the blue, the Cd/Dvd drive stopped recognizing cd's. Audio - video - data discs - doesn't matter. But it recognizes DVD's just fine. I can read and write them just like normal. Just won't recognize cd's anymore. I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, but to no avail. My device manager says it's a Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-7560S. Any thoughts?

Hi Kevin,
Most of the time, when a drive can recognize one disc type but not the other, it's a failure of one of the lasers. To check this, you need to run the Dell diagnostics and be sure to perform the read test using a data CD in the drive.
