Dell Inspiron 1564 battery
I have been using a dell inspiron1564 laptop for few years but recently I am facing a problem with charging the battery. When the adapter is plugged in and connected with the wall socket the battery indicator LED is blinking orange continuosly. When the laptop is switched on the screen says battery not identified and battery will not charge , press F1 to continue etc etc. The battery icon says " 26% available , (plugged in , not charging ) ". I have checked the battery meter which says battery is okay and workng. Also I ran the Dell diagonistic tests ( complete system including the battery ) which the laptop passed succesfully. Pls advise how to rectify the problem and to charge the battery.

Hi Mukherjeebn,
Good work on troubleshooting. I would suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.
If the issue still persists. We will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.
1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
2. Press the F2 key 2-3 times
3. You will now be on the BIOS screen
4. Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
5. If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
6. Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.
Also check if the adapter light stays on when connected to the system.
