Dell Inspiron 3442 doesn't literally shutdown
I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 2 weeks ago. I upgraded it to WIndows 10 from Windows 8.0 but before that I updates the BIOS first. After upgrading to Windows 10, I updated the drives uisng the Dell Support SIte where it automatically detects outdated drivers and update them after. Everything works fine but I noticed that everytime I shut down my laptop, it 's still hot after an hour. It seems the hard drive is still running becasue I hear the clicking sound. Unless I remove the power supplya and battery, it will not cool down so therefore it is still not off. Please help.

Hi geekyjaye,
It seems like an issue with the Operating system. I would suggest you to reinstall the Video card driver on the system to fix the issue with the shutdown.
Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card driver from Video section onto the system and install it.

Also, you may try shutting down the system by following the steps below and check if the battery still drains out.
Start > Run > type ‘cmd’ and in the command prompt box type "shutdown -s"
In addition, I would suggest you to not to keep the AC adapter connected to the system all the time.

try this.. 2 schools of thought on the forums here. byt what worked for me 3542 laptop
control panel
remove intel rapid storage
intel security assist
intel management interface
that worked for me
others have said just by downgrading the intel management to version 9 does the trick.

Thanks, but what do you mean by "remove"? Do you mean that I have to uninstall it from Programs and Features?

Hi Ravi !
I already update the video card after I upgrade to Windows 10. It didn't help actually. Seems like the new OS has a problem.

yes remove them.. u dont need them anyway.. plus it solves the problem, for me anyway. got a 3542
