Dell XPS 17 (L701X) Bluetooth not workig

Hello everybody! Couple of weeks ago I bought my Dell XPS 17 so I am new here.

I have to say I am very happy with my new PC. Until I found out my Bluetooth is no working and in fact has never been working even when it was factory new. It is not displayed in Device Manager, there are no files/folders related with Bluetooth on HDD when I search. Though in BIOS bluetooth is enabled. At the beginnig I even thought that my PC has no bluetooth, but then I consulted User Manual and internet, which proved I was wrong. So I Tried to download DELL`s drivers for bluetooth:

But when I click on setup.exe a window shows up tells me to switch on Bluetooth (Wireless switch Fn+F2), but that changes nothing. This window remains and the installation is not continuing, as if Bluetooth switch isn`t working. Then I installed software and apparantly also the driver directly from win64 folder and it seemed to install everything. But bluetooth is still not working and does not appear in Device Manager, although I now have files in Bluetooth folder in Program Files. If I click on bttray.exe it is shown in Task Manager as a process, although icon does not appear in taskbar as it should be. So - still not working.

Of course I don`t have a need in bluetooth very often, but it is quite pity that something is not working on a brand new PC for which I have paid A LOT of money. Disappointing. :(

Can anybody help me? Nobody has had the same problem? Thanks!

Martins

Thank you for the Service Tag information.

I am sorry to inform you that this system does not have a built-in Bluetooth card installed.

You can however purchase one. Give a call to Dell Tech Support and they will be able to give you the card compatible with your computer.

Hi

Thanks, but I know that I have to press just F2. OK, I told earlier That it is Fn+F2, but I know how to enable Wireless on my PC. Wireless works fine - pressing F2 enables/disables Wireless only but not Bluetooth.

Hope it is more comprehensible now.

Try pairing another Bluetooth item (cell phone) to it.If you get the error "Bluetooth adapter is disconnected or not turned on" then as i posted in your previous, the Bluetooth cable has become disconnected from the MOBO,or not connected at all.Is your Bluetooth light on,if not then this will also verify that. The Bluetooth module will still show as enabled in BIOS even if it has become disconnected from MOBO.

Next open the Bluetooth compartment and make sure the BT module is connected, this would be the easiest and first place i would check before going to the MOBO to reconnect.

You can try just simply reseatting the BT module this could also correct it not being shown.

The BT compartment is right next to the battery bay,you will see a 1" x 1 cm stirp with one screw to undue. This will not void warranty unless you damage something in the proccess which ive never seen from replacing this. But check and see if in fact the BT module is in there and just try to reseat it,(take it out and reconnect it) carefull on pulling the card away from the cable, hold the BT module and pull it from the white connector.

Next click start>control panel>programs and features> single click "WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software" then click uninstall at the top>DO NOT restart laptop.Go to the driver and download page and re-install the driver then restart.

If this does not work we can go from there.

Thaks for replying for the second time, my previus post was removed.

I have already tried to pair my mobile phone to it, but it was unsuccessful. In fact - my phone is not detecting the laptop - I suppose it isn`t broadcasting, so there is nothing and I can`t even start the pairing process. Secondly - I have no bluetooth light or icon or whatever in relation with BT on my PC. It looks like if I had no driver and software on my PC, but I cannot install driver because I have no bluetooth - when installing it promts me to tur it on, when I turn on Wireless on (which also should enable BT), nothing happens. So I`m kind of stuck.

And I`m not sure to open BT compartment. As my laptop is still under warranty, I don`t want to mess with the hardware opening it. I can try to do things related to software, but if it is hardware issue I will contact Dell and send it back. Basically, I am trying to figure out the problem. And if you are right and it is a cable... Then it is seriously uncool.

Cheers!

OK, thank you for showing me how it should look like. In mine Bluetooth is not displayed anywhere, as I`ve said it already a couple of times. This is how mine looks like. No sign of BT.

I tried also ubuntu on my PC to see what it will say about bluetooth. So - it says that there is no bluetooth adapter connected. Looks like hardware problem, what do you think?

I just did what you told me. I have to say I do not see bluetooth card seperately, but then I don`t really know. All I can say - my laptop is UK spec. Do you think that UK spec comes without bluetooth card? That is a bit weird, no? Anyway, I`ll post my screenshot so you can see what it says. I believe that it will make more sense to you than me.

Here you go. Thanks!

MartinsAdins,

Mine was listed on the bottom.

Can you please click on the green pencil in the above post and remove the screenshot. It contains your service tag number and that's like a serial number and posting them are against Dells Terms of Use (TOU)

 MartinsAdins,

You can also run Finding System Information and remove your product ID. At the bottom it will tell your network adapters.

So in network adapters BT is not listed. Does that mean that I don`t have it?

I apologise if I ask silly questions, but I`m not a computer pro.
